Opera House Friends Giving Campaign

Stoughton Opera House Friends Association (SOHFA) established in 2014, raises friends and funds to benefit the Stoughton Opera House and has contributed more than $500,000 since it’s formation. The friends association has provided funding for capital improvements including renovations and restorations to facilities, purchasing of sound and tech equipment as well as providing general financial support to the Opera House.

Mission: The Stoughton Opera House Friends Association (SOHFA) is dedicated to the continued success of the treasured Stoughton Opera House, a fixture in south-central Wisconsin's arts community. SOHFA aims to sustain the Opera House as a first-class performing arts facility through philanthropy, awareness building, and volunteer support.

Vision: Ensuring a secure and vibrant future for the Stoughton Opera House.

Values: Community, Creativity, Integrity.

Giving to the SOHFA Fund means you're helping to ensure that the Stoughton Opera House has a secure, vibrant future for years to come.

  • The Stoughton Opera House is independently owned and operated by the City of Stoughton. Funding comes from a mix of city support, ticket sales, Opera House memberships, Opera House donations, and the work of the Stoughton Opera House Friends Association.
All of these funding sources are critical for maintaining the theater, addressing urgent needs, and securing long-term sustainability.

  • The day to day operational costs of the Opera House are paid out of a Special Fund held by the City of Stoughton. Revenues that maintain a balance in that fund include Ticket Sales, Memberships, Donations, and a contribution from the City of Stoughton annual budget.

The Opera House is a non-political subdivision of a government unit. Charitable contributions to governmental units are tax-deductible under section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code if made for a public purpose.

An Opera House Membership is an annual contribution that offers benefits like early access to tickets and complimentary tickets to select shows – they are deductible less the value of any goods received.

SOHFA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and donations made to the Stoughton Opera House Friends Association are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Our Tax ID number is 46-4257008.
